Veterinary Medicine & Surgery - Letterkenny

The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) at ATU is designed to address the essential role of veterinary surgeons in safeguarding animal health, public health, and the sustainability of Ireland’s food-producing economy.

Minimum Entry Requirements PLUS

• H4 in Chemistry or Phys/Chem and a
• H4 in one of the following subjects: Biology, Ag Science, Physics. Additional Requirements
• Complete an online Situational Judgement Test called ‘Casper’ by end of February of the year of entry See https://www.atu.ie/courses/bachelor-of-veterinary-medicine-and-surgery-bvms for further details
• Complete the required work experience by end of January of the year of entry (this has been extended to the end of July for applicants for September 2026 entry only) Honours Degree (Level 8) 6 leaving Certificate subjects A minimum of two subjects at grade H5 or better Remaining subjects at grade O6/H7 or better Subjects must include either English or Irish. Mathematics is a required subject. Note: Combination of Leaving Certificate Examination Results (or equivalent examination) and the Casper Test Score Before the scores are combined, Leaving Certificate Examination points, (or points from another equivalent examination) above 550 will be moderated (moderation of Leaving Certificate Examination points will use similar principles to the system currently in use in Ireland for admission to medical education programmes). For every 5 points (or portion thereof) scored over 550, applicants will be awarded 1 point up to a maximum of 565 points, as outlined in the Table at this link https://www.atu.ie/courses/bachelor-of-veterinary-medicine-and-surgery-bvms For CAO applicants to the BVMS programme the maximum achievable score will be 865: 565 as the maximum score based on the Leaving Certificate Examination (or equivalent examination after adjustment) 300 as the maximum score based on Casper Test For example: If you achieve 621 points in the LCE (or equivalent examination) this will become 565 moderated LCE points and if you achieve a score of 190 in the Casper Test, your overall score will be 755. The combined score will then be used to offer a place to an applicant in line with standard CAO procedures www.cao.ie. Applicants with the same combined score will be ranked in order of their Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) pre-moderated points.
