- 1 year part-time, online. Recommended Study Hours per week Students can expect to attend a 1 hour online lecture for each module weekly. Students should also allow 3 to 5 hr independent study per module each week. On-Campus Attendance Requirement 1-day practical workshop scheduled in Semester 2 as part of the Metrology and Calibration module. Note: Check programme Examination and Assessment requirements, as they may involve examinations to be taken on campus.
Programme summary
This course is delivered online over two semesters with 30 credits being completed through a work-based project over the two semesters. The remaining 30 credits is gained through the successful completion of 5 modules – in semester 1 the student will complete 2 modules and in semester 2 there are 3 modules. Each module is delivered online via weekly live lectures which are recorded to provide maximum flexibility as attendance at live lectures is voluntary but strongly recommended.
Entry requirements
To qualify for entry to this Certificate course a standard applicant must achieve a pass in the leaving certificate (or equivalent examinations) with five grade D’s which must include Mathematics and English or Irish. An E in Higher Level Mathematics is also acceptable, as is a B2 or higher in Foundation Mathematics. Applicants who may not meet the above minimum entry requirements can have their experiential, work-based learning assessed through the ATU Sligo RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process. Ideally students are currently working and have the possibility of undertaking a related work-based improvement project during the academic year which is supported by a work-based mentor at supervisory level which the student nominates. Students will also be supported by an assigned academic supervisor from ATU. Whilst the programme is predominantly online with recorded lectures, there is a requirement for students to attend a 1 day practical/ workshop in semester 2.
