Duration: 3 years In Person or blended learning. Blended Learning Delivery Method: The autumn academic year 1 of the blended learning delivery mode of this degree commences on 3rd October 2026 and continues to 30th May 2027 inclusive of exam dates. A similar schedule will apply for year 2 & 3 of this programme. Blended learning introduces online learning with one-to-one support and generally includes a minimum of one weekend in-person practical skills classes per month with attendance required. The timetable is condensed to be delivered through a blend of online webinars, practical skills classes delivered at the weekend, accommodating travel, work, and study-life balance. In-person Learning Delivery Method: The academic year 1 for in-person weekday delivery commences on 28th September 2026, running until 30th May 2027. It is delivered in person on weekdays, which means 12 to 16 hours of in-person lectures delivered over 2-3 days per week. A Combination of Practical & TheoryTimetables are a combination of practical & theory classes. Classes are scheduled across 2-3 days to be considerate of students’ travel and accommodation arrangements, part-time working and study-life balance.

The BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching & Physical Education is a flexible degree for those pursuing careers in sports coaching or physical education teaching. Offered through in-person weekday and blended learning modes, it suits school leavers, recent graduates and career changers.

Entry requirements

Leaving Certificate requirements: 2 subjects at H5, 4 subjects at 06/H7 including English or Irish and Math.
Students are accepted onto this programme without a leaving certificate however applicants must meet one of the following criteria; QQI level 5 major award with a minimum of 3 distinctions.
All potential candidates are required to demonstrate competence in the English language. Non-Irish/UK students will be required to demonstrate command of English at IELTS 6.0 level (minimum score of 5.5 in all categories) or equivalent qualification.
Mature entry at 21 years. Mature students are reviewed on a case by case basis and entry is via interview.
Applicants who do not meet the criteria may be required to attend an interview with an offer of a place on the programme issued following a suitability assessment.

Refunds must be requested in writing within 48 hours after the first-round offers have been made. This will only be accepted by emailing refunds@portobelloinstitute.com. Evidence of CAO offer acceptance must be provided along in order to apply for a refund.
