Social care plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and strengthening communities, and this certificate explores ideas about what social care and social work are.

There are no formal entry requirements to study this certificate. However, you must: be working within or have access to a social care agency, for example through paid employment or voluntary work organise and complete a minimum of 10 days of verified practice learning in a social care setting this should ideally involve shadowing a qualified social worker the practice experience must be verified and may require you to obtain and pay for: a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if you are in England, or an Enhanced Disclosure through Access NI if you are in Northern Ireland if you already work in a social care setting, your employer may be able to help arrange this, but they are not obliged to do so participate in compulsory online workshops and tutorials if you are a student in Northern Ireland, attend face-to-face workshops while studying Foundations for social care and social work practice (KZNI123)
