Programme summary

This training will equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and capability to carry out key pig husbandry activities and manage a pig enterprise.

Entry requirements

There is a separate application process for each programme. Entry Requirements for Full-Time Level 5 Education Courses: Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following four entry criteria: 1. Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA)

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age on the 1st September on the year of entry and met the "Achieved" standard in four subjects. 2. Leaving Certificate Applicants must be 17 years of age on the 1st January following the year of entry to the Teagasc programme, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Leaving Certificate Established with minimum grades of O6/H7 in at least four subjects. or
  • Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) with minimum grades of O6/H7 in at least two subjects and achieved a ‘Pass’ in at least two link modules. or
  • Leaving Certificate Applied with a minimum "Pass" grade achieved. 3. QQI Level 4 (or higher) Major award
  • Applicants must be 17 years of age on the 1st January following the year of entry to the Teagasc programme and hold a QQI Level 4 or higher major award. 4. Adult Learners
  • Applicants who are Adult Learners (23 years or older on 1st September on the year of entry), who do not meet any of the criteria in 1 to 3 above, may apply through an interview process. Please note:
  • Additional entry requirements specific to equine and forestry courses are required. Where applicable, these are listed in the relevant course detail section
  • Applicants who hold Leaving Certificate or Junior Certificate qualifications that predate the current Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate programmes meet Teagasc entry requirements, provided they are deemed equivalent to those listed above
  • Applicants who hold international qualifications deemed equivalent to those listed above meet Teagasc entry requirements.
  • The above entry requirements also apply to applicants for component awards.
  • Teagasc further education courses are delivered through the medium of English and applicants are required to meet the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at Level B2. The CEFR Certificate must have been issued within two years of the start date of your course. To enter the Level 6 Programme, applicants must have successfully completed the Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture (Pig Production) programme.
