This Level 8 Special Purpose Award in Acute Medicine Nursing aims to enable acute medicine nurses to develop their knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of acutely ill adults.

Registered General Nurses currently employed in Acute Medicine Unit, Acute Medical Assessment Unit, Medical Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Short Stay Unit, Medical Ward (speciality or general– excluding rehabilitation / stroke / critical or high dependency) or Local Injury Unit for the duration of the programme. Interested Nurses will be required to provide evidence of: Approval from the applicant’s line manager (ADoN or DON) to participate in the course. Confirmation that the applicant will be employed in an AMU (or Acute Medicine Unit, Acute Medical Assessment Unit, Medical Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Short Stay Unit, Medical Ward, Emergency Departments or Local Injury Unit, as appropriate) for the duration of the programme Confirmation that a suitably qualified clinical practice supervisor is available to assess and support the applicant for the duration of the course Copy of current NMBI registration Educational qualification at NFQ level 7 (official copies of transcripts of results MUST be supplied with your application). What is RPL? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.
