Medicine - Undergraduate Entry

RCSI’s Medicine curriculum is innovative, future-focused and integrated. Our programme is centred around our students and is delivered in our state-of-the-art healthcare education facilities in Dublin.

To be eligible for consideration for an Irish or EU School Leaver place, you must: Meet the minimum entry (matriculation) and specific subject requirements. Achieve a minimum of 480 points in the same sitting of the Irish Leaving Certificate examination or equivalent. Sit the HPAT-Ireland test in the year of admission to the programme. HPAT-Ireland https://hpat-ireland.acer.org/ Five-year track (exempt from Foundation Year) Applicants must present a minimum of six subjects (2 x H4 and 4 x O6/H7) in the Irish Leaving Certificate, to include a minimum of an O6/H7 in Irish (unless exempt), English, Mathematics and a third language, plus a minimum of a H4 in Chemistry and a H4 in either Physics or Biology. Applicants must meet the above subject requirements and a minimum of 480 points in the same sitting of the Irish Leaving Certificate examination. Six-year track Applicants must present a minimum of six subjects (2 x H5 and 4 x O6/H7) in the Irish Leaving Certificate, to include Irish (unless exempt), English, Mathematics, a laboratory science (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Physics/Chemistry or Agricultural Science), a third language and one other recognised subject. Applicants must meet the above subject requirements and a minimum of 480 points in the same sitting of the Irish Leaving Certificate examination. H indicates minimum grade at Higher Level Leaving Certificate O indicates minimum grade at Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate Bonus points for Mathematics: Students presenting a H6 or above in Higher Level Mathematics have 25 points added to their score for Mathematics. The six highest subject scores will be counted to achieve a cumulative points score. The bonus points for Mathematics will only be relevant in cases where the subject Higher Level Mathematics is scored as one of the applicant's six best subjects for points scoring purposes. Please note The following applies to all Irish and EU School Leaver applicants: For applicants who meet the minimum subject entry requirements and the 480 points criterion in the same sitting of their school leaving examination, the allocation of places for Medicine will be determined on the basis of a combination of the Irish Leaving Certificate points, or equivalent points, and the HPAT-Ireland score. For the Medicine programme, Irish Leaving Certificate results, or equivalent, above 550 points are adjusted (or 'moderated') when combined with HPAT scores. Combined entry points range 2024: As a guide, in 2024 Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent points (for students who successfully entered the RCSI Medicine programme) ranged from 551 (moderated LCE points) to 565 (moderated LCE points) and HPAT-Ireland scores ranged from 167 to 221. The combined HPAT and moderated points score required for admission to the Undergraduate Medicine programme in 2024 was 732.
