The programme aims to equip practitioners with advanced knowledge and increased clinical capability.

Applicants must Have successfully completed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Counselling or Psychotherapy (minimum H2.2) or an equivalent* professional training in Counselling and Psychotherapy that satisfies the training requirements for professional accreditation. Have completed one year post-qualifying supervised clinical practice with a minimum of 50 hours of clinical practice which is verified by an accredited supervisor. Be assessed through an interview. Submit two written references (for applicants who have not already been on a prior stage of the course). * Where an applicant has not completed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Counselling or Psychotherapy, equivalence is assessed through the formal Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process used in MTU. This involves applicants completing the RPL form below, demonstrating how their professional training in Counselling and Psychotherapy satisfies the training requirements for professional accreditation. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.
