Programme summary

This course is suitable for those keen to pursue careers in publishing, literary journalism, or communications. The MA English programme broadens and deepens learner knowledge of literatures in English, literary and cultural theory, and textual practices. We provide our students with the opportunity and skills for independent research and self-directed learning, while enhancing analytical and critical thinking skills and instructing learners in the use of traditional and technological research resources.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in an English-related degree or an approved equivalent qualification. The university may shortlist and invite you to an interview. For non-native English speakers an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) composite score in the range of 7.0 is required. Other Entry Considerations: We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, as long as you can show that you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme. At UL, we value all kinds of learning and support different ways to qualify through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.
