Programme summary
If you would like to be able to take on a role and responsibilities associated with caring for people with additional challenges living in our community, then this is the course for you. This course will enable you to acquire competencies and skills, to care for someone with a person-centred approach. Empathy, dignity, respect, and confidentiality which are all fundamental to best practice will be core fundamentals in acquiring your knowledge and skills. You will develop a skill set which is adaptable to a variety of work areas such as health care, childcare, community support and community development.
Entry requirements
Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4. Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirement. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English. All applicants will undergo a processing stage during which further information will be gathered in relation to their application. An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the entry requirements set out here and satisfactory completion of the processing stage. Note: This course requires students to be Garda vetted through the college. Prospective students should also be aware that some aspects of this course are physically demanding and should satisfy themselves that they are physically fit enough to undertake it. Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
